• The Design Process of a Messy Adult

    Design process of a brand
    Art by Monique

Today, my teacher assigned us to do a fictional startup for a brand. I had several (ridiculous) ideas but none of them would have been appropriate for the class.. so I settle on creating a coffee shop. I don’t drink coffee. It’s too bitter for me. I prefer Monster to wake me up. Either way, I kept thinking about my partner, who is Turkish and i was like “they drink coffee, right?” And that’s how i decided to make a Turkish coffee shop, with pastries of course. My design process is an absolute mess if you can’t tell. The worse part: i scrapped this idea 5 days later.

Design process paired with the lack of creativity

Like i said previously, i am a not a creative person. I struggle a lot trying to find a singular idea. This is quite an awful experience considering i am in a creative program.

Usually, I like when people tell me what to do for them. It’s easier for me to do what they want and it makes me more confident on what I do. When I have freedom to do something, I just stare blankly at my screen and ask everyone i know for an idea.

I tried doing moodboards, sketching , going on the internet but nothing really helps me. I just get kinda stuck. The only reason why I even got the coffee shop idea was because i thought about my partner, and usually i get inspiration from her, because i lack it.

The design process is one of the biggest thing that stumps me in this program. I mean, in the future, I’ll probably be able to figure out a better way to boost my creativity and ideas but for now, I’m just stuck.

In a positive note, I’m quite excited to make my new idea! It’s more me than the Turkish shop.. more Mexican.

That’s my rant for today. You can hear more about me in this previous post.

See you in the next blog,

    Monique
